Ringing in the new year is not an outdated phrase in Zürich. While awaiting our first fireworks display in Switzerland we were surrounded by our three main churches and their bells. Twenty minutes before midnight Grossmünster, Fraumünster, and St. Peter's unrelenting song reverberated across the Limmat river and bounced in our ears. At midnight a round of five fireworks saw the beginning of a new year, followed shortly by fifteen more minutes of bells.
