Stein am Rhein.
Painted buildings fill Rathausplatz creating a charming pedestrian friendly zone inside the Altstadt. Paul here up in wonder at plentiful and gorgeous frescoes. An hour North-west of Zürich on the bank of the the Rhein river, this medieval city retains the original layout. Many of the frescoes date from 1900.
Above the town sits Burg Hohenklingen. Th
e tourist information help clarified the difference between a Burg(castle) and a Schloss(castle). A castle has princesses and many more glorious towers. A Burg is more a rich persons' fortress. Unfortunately after walking the 30 minutes up the stairs on Tuesday, we discover the Burg to be closed (Opening hours Tues-Sun). Knowledge of tourist information office: Low. View: very nice.
