Arles.

Wednesday market stretching as far as the eye can see and then turn a corner...more! We devoured our lunch of sun-dried tomatoes, fresh goat cheeses, tantalizingly juicy stone fruits and fragrant ripe melon. The hotelier spoke no English and we were thankful to the student from North Carolina translating for us. (She was there unexpectedly for one week only!)

Arles arena is magnificent. Restored and used actively today for weekly bull games during the summer. Unfortunately we were one week early to see this...no bulls are harmed during the making of this event! (Instead the people retrieve flags from the bulls horns)

And we happened upon a music festival in town...we saw a few great bands including the one pictured. A pull-along platform replete with gas hookups and jungle gym. We missed the pyrotechnics and acrobatics but the big drums and enthusiastic musicians pounding out a rhythm through the streets (which J-Ber slept right through!)were beat-poppin', street-dancin' good fun.

But ooooh! that wind! It deserves a double !!. I will certainly check Van Gogh's canvases at the upcoming landscape exhibit closely for provencial dust!
