Route 29 to 66.

Route 29.
North-East of Zürich through farmland around the Greifensee wraps Route 29. It is a particularly wonderful path encapsulated by a very old time community feel connecting one lane country roads. Farther out on the path we lose the Sunday walkers and ride blissfully alone. Forty kilometers on we turn West toward the Gold Coast. On the hill above Rapperswil, the whole community
relaxes in the warm sunshine. A pair of horse and riders trot past followed by a loyal sheepdog. What sounds like soft tinkering windchimes turns out to be a field of sheep grazing in the sun and green grass, each playing a different note.

Rapperswil.

Old town Rapperswil is on a small landmass jutting shortly into the Eastern side of the Zürichsee. Two long bridges connect Rapperswil to Pfäffikon across the lake. Traffic flows on the outskirts of town and across the bridges. The Old Town is small, on a hillside, and dominated by a Medieval castle. Large modern block letters rise from the cobbled square below and read "Schau Platz." Footed glass dishes carrying whip-cream and wafer topped sundaes stream from the two main restaurants to relaxed customers in the square.

Route 66.
Our day trip to Rapperswil had a quick ending. Route 66 follows
the Zürichsee North passing vineyards along the Gold Coast. A flat, fast track for speeding toward home. Averaging 28 kph, it takes about half the time to cover the same distance on the way out.

My word what a beautiful green lawn. So perfect. And what is that thing in the middle? And that one there? AH-HA! Solar mower. This one's for you, Jake.

Distance 70 km.
