Rheinfalls.

Standing at a towering 25meters tall, the Rheinfalls have the title of largest waterfall in Europe! After living in the Northwest, it is hard to believe these little falls are the most impressive. The viewpoint, however, is just that. From the protruding decks of Schloss Laufen visitors stand directly over the rapids. This loud, disorienting Aussichtspunkt brings onlookers into the action in a very unique way.

Unbelievable force and quantity of water set the falls apart. Of course the magnitude of water fluctuates between Winter and Summer, but the average Summer waterflow of these falls is 600m3 per second! Can you understand that amount? I can't. Watching it flow beneath your feet is exhilarating. And confusing!

Walking along the Rhine from nearby Neuhausen is lovely. Just past the falls the river turns southerly. Surrounding this area is a small town and two castles. The larger Schloss Laufen and smaller Schlossli Wörth. Small ferries cross tourists from one to the other. In the true Swiss spirit of enabled travel, one can also take the ferry to one of two large Rocks centered in the falls. Depart and take the staircase to the top, complete with Swiss flag.
