Fiorenz a Roma III

Assisi.
San Francesco d'Assisi basilica. Quiet respite along the steps of San Francesco. Historical memories bring nuns, monks, believers. A magical air surrounds the town. Visitors, as if by listening intently to the past, create a vivid, unique future. A purposeful wind ruffles the olive groves.

Vaulted ceilings in the basilica once painted bold blue n
ow spread aquamarine circles through the symmetric golden stars. Frescoes in the basilica superiore depict the life of Saint Francis as dollhouse figures, the buildings short, flat and light. A disembodied hand pointing earthward graces the sky of one fresco, two solemn fingers guiding the people below.

Spello.
Smaller and smaller towns encompassed by smaller walls on top of smaller hills. This tiny town is holding the annual flower festival and we see red, pink, blues lining every cobbled side street.

This walled city has one main street direct through the middle of town, and a few winding ones around and out of town. Walking the length of town is a short affair. Overhangs and corridors alongside wooden doorways feel as if an indoor city. We are neighbors for a moment.

Roma.
Heat is held in Rome like a terrarium. The sidewalk radiates the sun rays even in evening. And still we walked. and walked.

just as so many others.
